The Big D Lax Camp mission is to create a youth lacrosse program in the Dallas area that helps promote the fastest growing sport in the State of Texas. The camp’s goal is to provide a professional and safe environment for boys 3rd-8th grade to learn the basics of lacrosse and to see how much fun the sport can be. The camp will emphasize teamwork, which we all recognize as a vital element of lacrosse. The collection of coaches at the camp will encompass an impressive amount of experience and knowledge about lacrosse. But more importantly, these coaches are a part of the Texas (Dallas) lacrosse family and care a great deal about each boy’s further development not only as a player but as a young man.
As the sport continues to grow quickly in Texas, there are less and less opportunities to help young boys learn the skills needed to progress as a young lacrosse player. This camp will help them towards this goal. The boys will learn many lacrosse skills through individual positional work and will also be involved in competitive games for the purpose of encouraging sportsmanship and teamwork.
The camp will run for 4 days from 9am to 5:00pm each day. During the day the boys will learn many of the skills required to be a better lacrosse player. The boys will be divided up into age groups 3rd-4th, 5th-6th and 7th-8th grade, and by what position they play or would like to play. The morning sessions will concentrate on positional work, which encompasses many drills that have proven to be successful in training young lacrosse players. In the early afternoon the camp will break for lunch provided by the camp and also for some time in the Hockaday pool. After that the boys will break up into their assigned groups for some friendly but competitive scrimmages. Highly qualified coaches, who will break the action to point out various mistakes or accomplishments on the field, will run these scrimmages. We will have a small lacrosse tourney during the late afternoon sessions on the last two days of the camp for awards and prizes.
The camp will provide a pair of shorts and a reversible jersey to be worn on the lacrosse fields. There will be a certified trainer at the site at all times in case of injuries incurred on the field. All players will be covered by a camp insurance policy in case of any serious injury. There will be plenty of water around the fields and we will take water breaks to prevent any danger of dehydration in the hot Texas summer.
Players are responsible for bringing cleats, helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, cups, any body protection, sticks, and most importantly mouth pieces!!! The goal of the lacrosse camp is to help increase the lacrosse knowledge and skill of each boy who attends the camp and to have FUN!!. However we also want to instill a foundation for sportsmanship and teamwork that they can take back both to school and to their homes.
